for Asian Studies
Includes employment listings, conferences and study programmes
H-Asia,
a member of H-Net Humanities & Social Sciences OnLine. The primary
purpose of H-ASIA is to enable historians and other Asia scholars
to easily communicate current research and teaching interests; to
discuss new articles, books, papers, approaches, methods and tools
of analysis; to test new ideas and share comments and tips on teaching.
H-Asia is especially committed to discussing region wide, comparative
and professional issues important to scholars of Asia.
The
International Convention of Asian Scholars (ICAS),
The aim of
ICAS is to create by way of a global competition both an international
focus for publications on Asia while at the same time increasing
their visibility worldwide. The ICAS secretariat was founded in
2001 to safeguard the continuity of the ICAS process. The ICAS secretariat
is hosted by the IIAS.
Its main tasks are: assessing new ideas concerning ICAS, supporting
the reading committees of the ICAS Book Prizes, keeping an up-to-date
database of participants, Asian Studies institutions and advertisers.
ARC
Asia Pacific Futures Research Network Network Convenor: Professor
Louise Edwards, University of Technology Sydney. The ARC Asia Pacific
Futures Network's broad goals are to provide stimulus for innovative
research that makes links across disciplinary and area boundaries
to enhance Australia's interactions with and knowledge of the Asia
Pacific region. The Network brings experienced researchers into
collaboration with government and industry with a view to stimulating
new research directions, partnerships and training opportunities.
A significant component of the Network is to ensure that new generations
of expert Asia Pacific researchers are nurtured through collaboration
with experienced researchers.

Norwegian Network for Asia Studies
ØRNAST,
Øresund Network of Asian Studies
was established in 2003 with the purpose to strengthen East, South-East
and South Asian education and research at the universities and university
colleges involved in the Øresund University Consortium, especially Copenhagen,
Lund and Roskilde. ØRNAST encourages researchers and departments to co-operate
and students to study courses also on the other side of Øresund.
NACS
- Nordic Association of China Studies
Nordic Association for China Studies (NACS) was established in 1991. NACS
is an academic network for Nordic scholars, teachers and students specialising
in Chinese Studies with a focus on humanities and social sciences. Moreover,
NACS provides a network for distribution of relevant information and events.
NAJAKS
- Nordic Association of Japanese and Korean Studies
Najaks was established in 1990 to promote Nordic research on Japan and
Korea within the humanities and social sciences, and to assist in establishing
contacts between scholars and students in the Nordic countries and the
rest of the world in the field of Japanese and Korean studies. The main
activity of the association has been to organise Nordic conferences.
NAJS
- Nordic Association for the study of Contemporary Japanese Society
NAJS was formed in 2002, with the aim to encourage Japanese studies in
the Nordic countries, in particular by stimulating education and research
related to modern Japanese society. The ambition of the network is to
be an interdisciplinary forum where doctoral students and researchers
can share experiences, exchange information, and take part in debates.
NASA
- Nordic Association of South Asian Studies
The purpose of NASA is to promote humanistic and social scientific studies
of South Asia, and to contribute to exchange and contact between researchers
and students working on South Asia. Specifically the association should
promote cooperation between researchers and students in Nordic and non-Nordic
countries, as well as organisations engaged in South Asian studies. Furthermore
NASA should periodically assist in organizing conferences and seminars
on South Asia.

Network
for University Co-operation Tibet - Norway
Academic collaboration
between institutions, researchers and students in Norway and Tibet Autonomous
Region mainly takes place within the framework of
Network for University Co-operation Tibet - Norway .
The projects involve several disciplines and have two main components;
a) research and b) education.
Nordic
Centre Fudan
Located at the prestigious Fudan University, the Nordic Centre provides
a meeting place for Nordic and Chinese scholars and students. The Centre
regularly arranges joint Nordic-Chinese conferences, workshops, courses
and open lectures on a wide variety of topics.
Nordic
Centre India
The Nordic Centre in India is an institution in process. The Centre is
intended to give administrative and other assistance to Nordic students,
researchers, teachers and administrators who are engaged with Indian/South
Asian topics. We may also be of use to other Nordic groups traveling to
India to learn about the country they are visiting.
SASNET
- Swedish South Asian Studies Network
After an initiative by the Foreign Ministry in 1998, Sida SAREC invited
suggestions from Uppsala, Göteborg and Lund universities on how to set
up a Swedish centre/network for South Asian studies in June 1999. In May
2000, Lund was given the responsibility, with a planning period lasting
for the remaining part of that year, and funding for 2001-2002. An advisory
conference was organised in Lund in October 2000, with participation of
Swedish senior researchers and a fair representation of PhD candidates
and concerned government officials. SASNET was formally started in January
2001, with directions issued by the Vice-Chancellor of Lund University
in June 2001 and with its first board meeting in August 2001.
The
University Network of East and Southeast Asian Studies
The aim of the National University Network for East and Southeast Asian
Studies is to promote education, research and personal exchange on and
to East and Southeast Asia in Finnish Universities.
European
The Asia-Link
programme was launched at the beginning of 2002 as an initiative
by the European Union (EU) to foster regional and multilateral networking
between higher education institutions in European Union Member States
and South Asia, Southeast Asia and China . This five-year programme,
which has a total budget of EUR 40 million, aims to provide support
to European and Asian higher education institutions in the areas of
human resource development, curriculum development and institutional
and systems development
Asian
Studies in Europe and China, Durham University
Contemporary Asian studies is rapidly developing in both
Europe and China. In particular, the study of contemporary China has
taken on an increased importance due to China's rapid economic growth
and expanding political and cultural influence. The main objective of
the project is to broaden and deepen the study of contemporary Asia
in both Europe and China, through an expansion of existing ties between
Durham, Renmin University of China, and the Free University of Brussels
( Vrije Universiteit Brussel, VUB ). This would further promote mutual
awareness and understanding between scholars in Europe and China, and
enhance the regional and multilateral networking of European and Chinese
higher education institutions.
Council
for Asia-Europe Cooperation , The Council for Asia-Europe Cooperation
(CAEC) is a network of Asia Pacific and European studies
who focus on researching international relations between the
two regions. A wide range of subject areas is covered. Key areas of
concern include international security (including the governance of
East Timor ) conflict, international migration flows and economic relations
between European nations and Asian
nations. The web site includes information on the aims of the council
its membership and activities. It includes access to information on
its task forces, conferences and access to some full text reports and
papers.
European
Alliance for Asian Studies, is a co-operative framework of European
institutes specializing in Asian Studies. The aim of the Asia Alliance,
established in 1997, is to contribute to bringing together the fragmented
forces in Europe on Asian Studies in order to establish scholarly excellence
in central areas of research and expertise on Asia, to the benefit of
the institutes' national research environments and the European community
at large.
European
Association for Japanese Studies, EAJS, We are an association of scholars
and researchers focussing on Japan. Japanology or Japanese studies is
now well established as a field of research and an academic discipline,
but for many years researchers in Europe persued their work in more or
less splendid isolation, separated by linguistic or national barriers
or by adacemic conventions and traditions.
Association
for Korean Studies in Europe, AKSE, The Association for Korean Studies
in Europe (AKSE) is the main scholarly society for Korean studies in greater
Europe. Its objectives are to stimulate and co-ordinate academic Korean
studies in all countries of Europe, and to contribute to the spread of
knowledge of Korea among a wider public. Founded in 1977, AKSE holds regular
scholarly conferences and publishes an annual Newsletter .
European
Association for Southeast Asian Studies, EUROSEAS
EUROSEAS is an association
of European scholars who want to integrate their work, directed at Southeast
Asia, with that of other European Southeast Asia specialists. They wish
to achieve this, for example, by meeting each other regularly and making
use of each other's expertise, publications and libraries. Thus the Association
forms an international framework for scholars, their studies and their
source materials.
European Association
for South Asian Studies, EASAS, The European Association for South
Asian Studies (EASAS) is a professional, non-profit organisation of scholars
engaged in research and teaching concerning South Asia with regard to
all periods and fields of study. The objectives of EASAS are to support
and promote South Asian Studies in all countries of Europe.
European Society for Central
Asian Studies, ESCAS, A primary reason for establishing ESCAS
was to give Central Asian Studies the status of a separate research field
in its own right, independent of Soviet and Eastern European studies,
to establish research links with disciplines
working within the same historical and cultural continuum in adjacent
areas, and to create opportunities for direct cooperation between scholars
of the former Soviet Central Asia and scholars in adjacent areas

Association of Chinese Studies, EACS, The purpose of the Association
is to promote and foster, by every possible means, all scholarly activities
related to Chinese studies in Europe. The Association shall not engage
in any political activity.

Association for Asian Studies (DGA) Die Deutsche Gesellschaft für

Institute for Asian Studies ( IIAS), The
International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) is a postdoctoral research
centre based in Leiden and Amsterdam , the Netherlands . Our main objective
is to encourage the interdisciplinary and comparative study of Asia and
to promote national and international cooperation in the field. The institute
focuses on the human and social sciences and on their interaction with other
sciences.
White
Rose East Asia Centre, Leeds and Sheffield Universities The Centre
is an innovative joint initiative between the departments of East Asian
Studies at the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield. It is based on the already
substantive collaboration between two of Europe's pre-eminent departments
of East Asian studies under the umbrella of the White Rose university consortium.
Asian
The
Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies ( RSPAS) is Australia 's
pre-eminent centre for research and postgraduate training on the Asia Pacific
region. Priority areas for the School's research are Northeast Asia, Southeast
Asia, South Asia and the Southwest Pacific.
The
East Asian Development Network is a network
of research
institutes, centers and think-tanks in the developing countries

Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (IAPS) is a government funded, academic

Kyoto
Review of Southeast Asia
This Web based journal/project is based at the Center for Southeast Asian
Studies at Kyoto University , Japan . Its aims are to promote
region-wide exchange of ideas and scholarship. The Review is published
bi-annually, each issue is concerned with a specific topic or theme. Contributions
are in the form of review essays, book reviews and interviews, all of
which are in English with abstracts being available in several Southeast
Asian languages. Thus it offers researchers
and students an overview on recent debates on the topics covered.
Japanese
Studies Network Forum, Japan Foundation (JS-Net) his website was
created for those conducting research in Japanese studies to support networking
of Japan specialists and to enable easier access to information in the
field.
Hongkong
The
Southeast Asia Research Centre (SEARC) based within the Faculty of
Humanities and Social Sciences at the City University of Hong Kong focuses
on the study of contemporary Southeast Asia . The Centre promotes the study
of Southeast Asia in Hong Kong and also aims to establish links with international
researchers and institutions studying Southeast Asia. The Centre's core

Institute
of Southeast Asian Studies
The Institute of Southeast Asian Studies has existed since 1968.
It is a regional research centre for modern Southeast Asia , producing
research with a geo-strategic and economic emphasis. The centre aims to
encourage research within scholarly circles, but also to enhance public
awareness of this region. It is based in Singapore . ISEAS' library has
a Web catalogue which can be accessed by registered user organizations.
The ISEAS Web site has information on research programmes, staff, appointments
and publications.

Asia Research Centre
This research centre is based at the City University , Hong Kong and aims
to make new and valuable contributions to Southeast Asian
studies. Its core research theme is: Remaking Southeast Asia in a
