How to use NIAS LINC
How to use the NIAS LINC collection
All of the material on Asia available in the NIAS LINC collection
can be found in our online catalogue Asiana,
where you can search our books, cd-roms, video and journal and newsletter
titles.
To find articles in the journals and newsletters NIAS LINC holds,
please go to NIAS LINC journals
where you can search the contents of our journals collection. For
some journals you will get a fulltext version of all or some of
the articles online, for other journals you get the table of contents
and can then find the journal in question on the journals shelves
in the library. If you cannot find it there please ask the librarian
for assistance.
It is possible to set up alerts for searches you have made in both
Asiana and NIAS LINC journals, so that you will receive an email
whenever new material within your areas of interest is available
in the NIAS LINC collection. For more information please see the
help functions of Asiana
and NIAS LINC journals.
How to use the information resources at NIAS LINC to find relevant
material
If you cannot find the material you are looking for in the collection
of NIAS LINC, or if you want to make a more general search for material
about a specific subject, NIAS LINC can offer a wide selection of
sources for information on Asia.
Databases
To make a general search for information including books, reports
and journal articles, you can use one or several of the databases
available, e g Bibliography of Asian Studies, Asia Intelligence
Service, the databases in the Royal Library’s Elektra : e-resources,
Ingenta or World Affairs Online.
In some of these databases you will find only journal articles,
in some all kinds of material. Some of the databases have fulltext
access to mainly journal articles, some only bibliographical references
to material. Please read the introductions to the databases for
more information. In many of these databases it is also possible
to create alerts on searches you made to get continuous updates
on new material.
Please note that some of these databases are only available at
NIAS LINC or within the Copenhagen University network.
Specialized bibliographies
NIAS LINC has also compiled a number of bibliographies on specific
Asia-related subjects which are available in Asiana in the form
of searchable databases. You will find them under NIAS
- Bibliographies in Asiana.
News
Dialog Newsroom and World News Connection (WNC) are both searchable
databases of news. Dialog Newsroom is a global news source and WNC
gives access to fulltext translations of material from major news
sources. Both are only accessible from the news
page. There you will also find links to online editions of major
Asians newssources.
Facts
To find statistical data or basic facts about the Asian societies
you can consult online sources or the handbook section of NIAS LINC.
Asian Studies Libraries
The NIAS LINC website also gives access to a number of the major
libraries within Asian studies, in the Nordic
region and internationally.
